Budweiser takes Political Stance, or Just a Super Bowl Coincidence?

America's most loved beer company takes a stand on immigration, breaking ground for the most watched Super Bowl Ad of 2017.

"Born the Hard Way" currently has over 26 million views via youtube, and ranked as the number one watched SB commerical via ispot.tv. What millions are freaking out over is not just the passion and history put into this video, but the political statement they made by choosing to air this.

Budweiser's commercial portrays the immigration story of its founder, Adolphus Busch, in celebration of the brand's 141 years of "working toward achieving the American dream." The commercial shows Busch's journey from Germany to America, with one goal in mind-- the dream to brew his own beer. Along the way, he endures the stuggles immigrants often face coming to an unkown land. When he stumbles across a bar in St. Louis, he meets his future business partner, Eberhard Anheuser. With only the clothes on his back and a sketchbook of his ideas, Busch was able to live his American Dream.

Ranked Agency of the year, Anomaly Ad Agency sure held up their title on this one. Anomaly's founder himself, Carl Johnson, also came to America to bring over his desire to create value in advertising and internationally expand his business.

Just a few days before the commercial aired, Budweiser Executives sent out an email reassuring workers of their values and beliefs in immigration and diversity.

The best part?

Although "super relevant" in today's world, a top marketing executive at Budweiser said the commercial was not meant to take a stand on the current political position of the United States. Ricardo Marques, marketing executive, states the purpose of the video is to demonstrate "the pursuit, the effort, the passion, the drive, the hard work, the ambition" that their founder endured throughout his journey. The commercial was a 15-second teaser to drive consumers to watch the full video on their website.

Did Budweiser passively state their political views?

Wake up consumers, we cannot be that stupid.

Over the past few months, we've seen multi-billion dollar companies make public statements about current political issues, such as Nordstroms, Starbucks, and Apple. Top of their industry, each company has vocalized and reiterated their core values and mission to all employees and customers.

We've seen companies risk losing many customers through the reveal of their poitical statements, and Budweiser did not hold back. With their recent decline in the U.S. Market share, they have many wondering if patriotism can push them to be back on the rise in the market. Looks like
